Garden of Renewal

The last few years, my gardens became a tangled mess. Herbs kept growing and being harvested, offering their healing gifts, but they were surrounded—and at times overwhelmed—by weeds. Beauty was still there but hidden beneath the overgrowth. I once read that the state of your garden is a mirror of your soul, and that truth hit me hard.

In these past few months, so much has shifted within me—emotionally and spiritually. Within the last four weeks I’ve moved through the side herb gardens, planted fall vegetables, cleaned out the front yard beds, and most recently worked along the side of the house. That spot was the hardest. It carried weight, memories, and emotions that I had avoided for far too long.

I looked back at pictures from only three short years ago—gardens full of herbs and flowers, alive with color, neatly tended. The contrast was sharp. But slowly, with each section cleared and replanted, something inside me began to lift.

Yesterday was a turning point. My body was aching, and I had Reiki in the morning. I knew I couldn’t give both my garden and my clients 100% if I pushed too hard. That’s when blessing #1 arrived: my neighbor’s son appeared and helped me finish the last bit. By evening, it was clean, refreshed, and ready for new life.

I placed LED daisy bouquets around the garden, tucked mums into corners for bursts of color, and set out a beautiful owl light that casts shadows against my house at night. Standing there, I felt my spirit grow lighter.

The aches in my body are good ones—earned through the release of what no longer served me. My heart feels open, my soul at peace, and my garden once again reflects what I have been working toward: healing, growth, and readiness for whatever comes next.

Take a moment this week to step into your own garden—whether it’s soil, a potted plant, or simply a quiet space within yourself. Breathe, clear away what no longer belongs, and invite in light, color, and renewal.

I like the statement " the garden mirrors the soul". I just spent a month cleaning out around 900 square feet of flower gardens the previous owner neglected. The reward is worth the work!
